The below courses are all one day and held in the Plain Sailing classroom on Brixham Marina.
At the end of the day a RYA certificate will be given.



Radar

The aim of the course is to teach students to use small boat radar to assist decision-making in navigation, pilotage and collision avoidance.

Sailing and Motor yachts increasingly have radars on board. The International Regulations for Provention of Collisions at Sea state that if you have a radar on board you must know how to use it. This course satisfies the requirements of some categories of commercial work afloat.

Short Range Certificate - Inc VHF & Digital radio

All VHF users are required by law to have the Operators license.

The one-day course provides you with the skills to communicate with the Coast Guard in the correct manner. Being able to provide precise information efficiently saves time and reduces panic in a difficult situation.

Included in this course is GMDSS (Global Marine Distress And Safety System).

First Aid at Sea

The one-day course covers first aid for possible accidents at sea. It includes the utilisation of equipment on board your vessel. An RYA certificate is awarded on completion.

Sea Survival Course

This one-day course is designed to provide you with the basic knowledge of safety equipment when in an emergency situation.

Yachting is one of the safest leisure sporting activities and 99.9% of yachtsmen will never use their liferaft, however it is proven that in the event of an emergency at sea, people who have received training are more likely to survive.

The course involves classroom tuition plus 2 hours in a local pool. The course provides you with an opportunity to test and inflate Life Jackets and Life raft, understand and identify the contents of the Grab Bag. Knowing the equipment on board your vessel and how to use them enables you to have confidence when at sea. RYA certificate awarded on completion and the course is suitable for all crew members. Family groups are also catered for.

Diesel Engine Course

The aim of the one-day course is to give an awareness of the main systems of a marine diesel engine so that when going to sea you can take simple measures to prevent mechanical breakdown at sea and rectify defects, which do not require workshop support. No pre-course knowledge necessary.
